Nicholas Gilman was born in Exeter, New Hampshire on January 18, 1707/8. He graduated from Harvard in the Class of 1724, and went on to receive an AM in 1727. After graduation, Gilman taught school and acted as a substitute for area ministers in New Hampshire. On March 3, 1741/2, he was ordained in Durham, New Hampshire, where he gained notoriety as a New-Lights revivalist. Poor health plagued Gilman throughout his life, and he died on April 12, 1748. Gilman, Tristram, 1735-1809

Tristram Gilman (1735-1809) was the pastor of the First Congregational Church of North Yarmouth, Maine, from 1769-1807. A native of New Hampshire and a graduate of Harvard College in 1757, Gilman is noted for religious revivals instituted in 1791 which resulted in a wave of religious interest throughout New England.
